1. How did you come up with the name Wylo & Co?
We recently rebranded this past Fall. We used to go by the name of Teepeetots&co. We faced a roadblock with our business and decided that It was time to rebrand and start fresh. Our new brand name returns to the roots of why the company exists and the true inspiration behind our garments; our children Wyatt, Leo-Cruz and Cohen that is how we came up with wylo & co!
2. What made you want to open an online children’s boutique?
We both have boys, so we found that there wasn’t too many options or clothing at the time that we wanted to dress them in. We wanted something that was wearable, comfortable but also looked modern.
3. Tell us a little bit about yourselves! How did you two meet?
Nina: Mama to Wyatt, world traveler, lover of all things antiques/vintage, huge fan of DIY, fashion/home decor/design, all the good stuff! Born and raised in Calgary– yee haw!
Kate: I am a mom of two boys ages 4 and 7. I actually thought I was going to be a hairdresser at one point in time. I was born and raised in Lethbridge but so happy that I moved to Calgary. I had never sewn in my life until Nina and I decided to start this little business of ours.
We met working at a coffee shop in the area. We actually live blocks away from each other. So it’s super convenient when we trade off the products.
4. Would you say your shop portrays a certain style?
Yes & No. Modern and minimalistic, but also love pops of colour. So we kind of have a little bit of everything, to meet the needs of our shoppers.
5. Where does your inspiration come from when designing your products?
Every day comfort clothing + surroundings. We wanted something that you can wear for outside play, indoors for lounging, going out in, that looks and feels good.
6. What do you want your customers to know?
That we are a two-women team! Our partners both work away so we truly are momprenuers. The kids, the business, ourselves…we’re juggling it all. We work super hard and try to make all of our customers happy with timely customer service and delivery of their orders. We really do try our best…but also we have families and they do need us too!
7. Do you have any advice for new entrepreneurial mothers?
When you’re working hard and feeling guilty about your kids, you have to remember that you’re doing this for them but you’re also teaching them the core values; dedication, passion, responsibility, integrity etc. Them watching you reach your goals, increases their future for career success. Involve your children in the business with tasks like, sealing the mailers or grabbing invoices from the printer. But first and foremost take breaks, make that a part of your routine for yourself.
8. What makes your brand unique?
I think that we’re kind of a one stop shop. We carry pretty much everything you need. We also love that our products are made from organic cotton or bamboo jersey. Try to be as ethical and sustainable as possible.
9. What motivates you the most on ‘unmotivating’ days?
Probably our kids and family. We want to spend as much time with them and at times that is really hard when we have deadlines or markets coming up. So if we’re feeling unmotivated that definitely gives us that push so that once it’s done we have more free time to spend with them.
10. What piece is your top seller?
Currently our top seller is our Harems. They are buttery soft and keep shape after numerous washes, comfortable and we highly recommend to add them to your childs wardrobe.
