Today in our Little Black Book spotlight we are so excited to introduce you to……POSH & COZY! The two sisters are blowing our minds and coming up with hot NEW designs for your littles! Check out their Q&A with us, how they got started and more!
- Tell us about your brand and what it’s like working with your sister?
Our brand was created for children who deserve a wardrobe with the best of both worlds – Posh & Cozy. We use the highest quality fabrics and want to keep in my the health and well being of our little ones – with this being said we’ve got a 100% organic cotton and bamboo line which is oh so soft.
Growing up together we have always gotten along – but working together we compliment one another. Danielle and I both have a good work ethic and have high expectations for each other. Danielle is always on top of things – updating our website, creating new fashion trend ideas and researching efficient marketing concepts in building our brand.
I do a lot of behind the scenes paperwork and spreadsheet building and build our workload of tradeshows for the year – attending most of them. I also consider myself trendy – so I follow a lot of the new and upcoming fashion ideas in the kids clothing industry.
Together we work hard and help motivate one another. Our schedules seem to compliment one another – when Danielle is busy with her family of 6 – I pick up the slack. And when I am falling behind – Danielle has no problem giving me a push. Our advice to any sister or friend partnerships is to be very open and communicative. We are very happy with where our business is and are excited to work with one another and keep each other on the ball.
- What made you want to open an online children’s boutique?
Danielle originally came up with the idea. She started by creating hair accessories for little girls. This small project turned into a hit with close friends and family and she started thinking about taking things one step further and maybe having a dependable income off the idea. As a part-time nurse she wanted to spend more time with her family without loosing the income.
“After 6 months of business and a clientele too much to handle for one person – Brett ran the idea across me to create a partnership. She was inspired by how well I was doing and I didn’t have the time with a growing family. We became partners in October 2015 and have been meeting one goal at a time since!”
When Brett joined – we expanded our collections, built a website and started creating seasonal trend ideas for kids wardrobes – and here we are happily invested in our company.
- How did you come up with the name Posh and Cozy?
“I wanted a name that described everyday wear for kids that was comfortable and trendy. I was bouncing company name ideas off my sister Brett – and together we came up with the brand name Posh & Cozy.
- Would you say your shop portrays a certain style?
We think our shop portrays exactly what it’s named – Posh & Cozy. Our Cozy collection is made for everyday wear and comfort. It includes a lot of monochromatic prints that can be paired with any color and soft organic materials. Our Posh collection includes items that have been inspired by the fashion trends from each season. Our faux leather leggings, leather accents, rolled hem and graphic tees are just a few of the items we have incorporated right now. We do a new collection launch every spring/summer and fall/winter season.
- Where do you come up with inspiration and ideas for your products?
I’d say the majority of our inspiration comes from pinterest. We do research upcoming fashion trends on the internet quite a bit and right now we are slowly transitioning a little more graphic tops and more items that would be found in a minimalists wardrobe. We also love to carry a good set of prints – since lots of parent’s love a good print on their little one.
- What makes your brand unique?
In a small kids clothing business – the industry is saturated with similar products. We are constantly brainstorming ideas that aren’t seen in the market yet. Most of these ideas come from the fashion runway and a lot of internet research. We are trying to maintain a clothing line that is simple and classic. Every year we have narrowed down our selection of prints and are starting to focus on a simple color trend with lots of neutral options. Our most recent launch of the YOU crewneck – including our Handsome Crew – definitely received positive feedback so we are excited to get production started and come up with some more ideas for the little guys.
We also have recently launched our #beaniesforpreemies. Nothing can quite prepare you for parenthood and for parents of premature infants their time for planning is cut short. In an effort to raise awareness and support for premature babies Posh & Cozy is teaming up with our customers to provide a beanie fit just for a preemie. For every beanie purchase at our shop – we will donate one to a local hospital to help keep these precious littles cozy and comfy during their stay.
- What motivates you most in life?
Danielle is motivated by her 4 beautiful children – Ella, Olivia, Georgia and Beau. “I want them to experience a life of travel and adventure so I am working hard now to provide us with more opportunities. Brett is motivated by goals – “I am a very goal oriented person. I also want to one day have a family and support them, love them and also show them the many adventures in the world. I am very happy with how everything has come together with our business and can’t wait to teach my kids one day how much Danielle and I have worked towards building our small business.
- What do you want your customers to know?
The number one thing we love letting our customers know is that our product is made with good quality fabrics sensitive to that young, beautiful skin. Our products are made to maintain active, everyday wear and each piece is made with love. We make a product that will be soft and comfortable for all your little ones and are manufactured in a home filled with love.
We also want to make our customers aware of our #beaniesforpreemies campaign – for every beanie purchased through our small shop – one beanie is donated to the local Red Deer NICU and the Lloydminster Hospital.
- What can we expect from you this Summer 2017?
This summer we will be launching another line of prints and a new color to our shop. This will be launched at the end of May – so keep an eye out. These prints were selected for our shop because we love a good Hawaiian vacation – and we love that ocean blue! Sign up for our newsletter to receive all our new collection information, upcoming sales, discount codes and new product offers. For Danielle and I – our summer is pretty booked up – Danielle will be spending lots of time at the lake, building stock and maintaining orders – but family first!
I will be pretty busy with the same things as our summer is booked up with tradeshows surprisingly – we’ve only got the month of July open for personal time – but I am sure you will see me at a market or two that month.
- What advice would you give to a small business starting out?
Having plenty of ideas is awesome – but narrow it down to 4 or 5 items. Start with a 2 or 3 fabrics, a pattern and let your close friends and family know what you are doing. This is your biggest support system to building awareness. Ask them to share your information and posting information previous to your launch on social media is great exposure. Set a budget and a few maintainable goals for the first 3 months and then from that – grow to know what is manageable in your life. Good luck and we wish you the best. We love supporting other small shops – so give us a shout if you want some motivation.
